The album cover was a photo of Larry in an old-fashioned clawfoot tub full of suds. Written on the tiles above him in a Columbia secretary's lipstick were the words POCKET SAVIOR and LARRY UNDERWOOD. Columbia had wanted to call the album Baby, Can You Dig Your Man? but Larry absolutely balked, and they had finally settled for a CONTAINS THE HIT SINGLE sticker on the shrink-wrap.

🦋 IC Information

Character Name: Larry Underwood
Age: mid-20s
Canon: Stephen King's The Stand. I play him from the extended edition of the book, but with the original edition dates (the plague drops in July 1980).
Canon Point: The night he chooses Lucy over Nadine.
Character History: Here
Canon Abilities: Playing the guitar, singing, becoming a better human. His canon also includes psychic abilities that are gained after the plague which manifests mainly in the form of premonitional dreams. I'd like for him to continue having dreams with portents in them in game.
Inventory: His guitar & his leather jacket.

🦋 Personality

  1. Has your character always believed in magic? Do they have something influencing their perspective on the supernatural/metaphysical/spiritual from their past? How do they feel about magic?

Larry really never gave the possibility there was true magic a second thought until the plague occurred. But after experiencing the dreams of the good and evil counterparts that exist as living people on earth, he knows there's some kind of supernatural forces in play in the events that have shaped the end of the world as the survivors know it. He also feels there must be some kind of divine intervention that's taking place in changing him as a person, as well—he just doesn't think he would have been capable of turning his personality around the way he has without it. When the fae bring him to Pixie Led, he'll take it in its stride, assimilating the new information with what he's learned about God from Mother Abagail. Of course the fae are the same beings he's heard stories about during his life on earth—how could they not be? He's not sure how he would feel about actually worshipping them, though.

  2. If your character could ask for one wish, and it's going to be magically granted without any consequence, what will it be and why?

Larry would wish for there to be any way he could have done things better with Nadine. He knows his choice to stay with Lucy is for the best, but he also feels guilt that Nadine is obviously suffering from the emotions and consequences of his choice. But they'd traveled across the country together, and been a support for one another through so many things—perhaps it would be nice for he and Nadine and Leo to be a real family. The fact is, though, that Lucy is better for him, and dropping her as a partner would be a horrible betrayal. He has no idea of what's to come, of course—the fact that Nadine will betray everyone in Boulder for the chance to be with Flagg. He will blame himself in the aftermath, but of course he would have had no way of knowing. And any self-blame he engages in will be misplaced—he doesn't know that Nadine has been groomed by Flagg's spirit her entire life to be his bride.

  3. What song would a siren sing to your character to lure them closer? Why?

In another time, his own recording of his song, Baby, Can You Dig Your Man? would have done it—he was proud of the life the song brought him and the accomplishment of getting to be on the radio with it. However, by now the last thing he wants to hear is his own blues-inspired crooning. The recording is still something that brings him pride to have accomplished it, but now the achievement is stained by the choices he made in its aftermath—earning the royalty check caused him to be completely unwise about how to handle fame and friendship, as well as substance use.

But if he somehow heard the modern song Still Feel by Half-Alive, he'd be utterly inspired by its lyrics. They focus on moving on, day by day, when circumstances seem impossible.
So when I lose my gravity in this sleepy womb
Drifting as I dream, I'll wake up soon
To realize the hand of life is reaching out
To rid me of my pride, I call allegiance to myself

But I can feel a kick down in my soul
And it's pulling me back to Earth to let me know
I am not a slave, can't be contained
So pick me from the dark and pull me from the grave 'cause

    I still feel alive
When it is hopeless, I start to notice
    That I still feel alive
    Falling forward, back into orbit

  4. If there's one person your character would follow to another realm, who would it be and why? If there's no one, state that and explain why.

He definitely feels this way about Mother Abagail. As far as he's concerned, she's God's agent on earth, and following his dreams of her led to his rescue not only from Flagg, but from himself. His assholish behavior to everyone in his life started to turn around upon Rita's death, which he definitely blames himself for, but he may discount how much of the work was internal—he sees Mother Abagail as the one who intervened in between himself and God. If Mother Abagail came to him and said they needed to come to Pixie Led's realm, he'd follow without hesitation, even if he found it odd that a woman who seems to believe so strongly in the Christian God would make such a pronouncement. He has complete faith in her. He was willing to follow visions of her in his dreams, after all, and was only a bit surprised to learn she was a real person. (Sharing dreams with other people will do that to you.)

🦋 Fae Court

List your top three choices for your characters adoptive court. The mods will choose the one out of those three options that seems the most fitting based on your app.

  • Autumn

  • Dawn

  • Spring

Ability: Do you want your character to gain the ability of their court?

3) Yes, but they either have no ability of their own, or they refuse to trade theirs away; they will buy their court's ability on credit.

🦋 RP Samples

Sample 1:

Larry has been in the land of the fae for a couple of weeks now. He's unsure what he's been brought here for, but he has decided to take it all in its stride. On this particular evening, he arrives at his dorm late, choosing to come in as silently as he can to avoid waking his roommate. He's been trying not to get himself into trouble, but being here makes reverting to his problems with substance use so appealing—he really needs to seek out a support system to help him through.

"Hmn?" he hears from the other bed as he takes off his boots.

"Sorry, man." Larry finishes letting the second boot drop off his heel, still trying to let it fall off as silently as possible, but not trying so hard to be silent.

"You're coming in late," his roommate mumbles sleepily.

"Yeah, it's been another Day," Larry says, still trying to sound as apologetic as possible. "Just went out for a drink."

"Don't make this a habit," his roommate says, and rolls over.

Larry rolls his eyes a bit, but his heart isn't in it. He strips down to his boxers and lies down, slinging his blanket over his body. He's tired, of course, and being a little drunk should allow him to drop right off, but it doesn't. Instead, he finds himself in his own head, pondering the changes he's gone through since the plague struck back home. He's a better guy, he knows he is, but it's so hard to act like it sometimes. He's doing his best here to be kind and generous to others, and to be a guide to those that need it, but his history of substance abuse makes the freedom to obtain stuff too tempting.

He needs to be more careful. Maybe he should start to abstain instead of trying to consume in moderation.

The next morning he awakens, not really being aware of having fallen asleep. He doesn't feel well-rested in the least. Yeah, that solidifies it. He needs to stop.

Sample 2:

It was an early morning here in Boulder, and since they haven't figured out a way to get the electricity back on in the city yet, Larry has fallen into a routine where he awakens as soon as the sun begins to peek over the horizon. He never would have thought of himself as a morning guy, never would have been back when he was playing the guitar in cheap dive bars and coming in at three or four in the morning, but his life is much different now.

He steals out of the bedroom so as not to wake Lucy, tiptoeing down the hall to grab his robe out of the bathroom, and heads down to the kitchen. They have a camp stove and a French press, so he lights up a kettle on the camp stove's burner and sits down to smoke a cigarette. There are so few creature comforts left in this aftermath of the apocalypse, he does allow himself to continue to smoke. Will, as long as there are still non-stale cigarettes available in the gas stations to pick up. It just takes getting used to different brands one after another as the stock in the stores begins to be depleted.

As he smokes, he thinks. Some days he'd curl up on the couch with his cup of coffee when it finishes percolating, but today he thinks he's going to sit at the table and write up a journal entry. Dismissing Nadine last night has left him feeling a bit wistful and sad, and although he can't regret remaining with Lucy, he does feel bad that things went the way they did with Nadine. He pulls his journal over to him to write while the kettle works to a boil.

Last night Nadine came to me—came on to me, really. I don't know if I should have done something differently in our relationship over the past few months. She's the one who rejected me at first, and I did my level best to keep the relationship on the level she was asking for it to be, even though it was obvious she really did want me. Why'd she have to do things this way? I don't get it, man. It bums me out.

The kettle begins to whistle and Larry rises quickly to grab it off the burner. It's too late, though—the sound of Lucy stirring in the bedroom creaks through the house, and he sets the kettle down to go over to the table and flip the journal shut. Not that he thinks Lucy would peek, or invade his privacy, but if she's going to be getting up now, he doesn't want his emotions on the matter out in the open so publicly.

🦋 Player

Name: Marti or Data
Active Times/Pace: EST – times vary as I'm an insomniac with a very inconsistent sleep schedule. I try to tackle tags no farther apart than every third day, but ideally every day. I do get in boomeranging moods, though!
Brackets/Prose: Prose preferred, but will match.
Offensive Subjects & Triggers to Avoid: Noncon/rape. Otherwise, I don't really have any triggers, though I am uncomfortable with elaborate descriptions of gore and such. Putting a cw in the subject line for anything upsetting should cover me.

🦋 In Character

Physical Affection: Larry's completely open to greeting hugs among friends and the like. If they seem welcome upon multiple visits it'll definitely set a precedent.
Physical Violence: Larry has the fighting skills of an amateur who's gotten into bar fights before, but he's not at all an expert. He'll tend to avoid going into a fight bare-handed since he doesn't want to mess up his hands for guitar-playing.
Relationships: Larry's pansexual, though he comes from a bit of a repressed era (1980). If you desire a m/m ship, it may take some doing and he may express some internalized homophobia before he comes to accept it.
NPC Interaction: cool
Psychic & Psionic Information: Larry comes from a reality where people have developed psychic skills after a pandemic caused a worldwide cataclysm. This mostly comes in the form of dreams, but Larry will have come to recognize the signs when something is a psychic-based vision. In game, I'd like for him to continue to have dreams that may serve as portents.
Magical Information: See above.
Medical Information: N/a
Offensive Subjects & Triggers Associated with This Character: Larry is a former alcoholic and drug addict. If circumstances in game go in a dark direction he may be willing to turn back to drugs at some point in the future. He comes from a canon where the inciting event is global pandemic that wipes out 99% of the human population. The themes of strong forces of opposed religious good and evil run deep in his canon.

🦋 Out Of Character

Backtagging: I prefer to play out what I can of a thread in a fairly timely manner. If it's looking like what is happening between our characters is going to have a major impact on their CR longterm, I'll keep backtagging for some months, but for the most part if it's beyond the current plot and it's not going much of anywhere I'm liable to lose interest.
Threadhopping: I'm all for this in network posts as long as things are open (i.e. there's no indication the transmission is private). For logs, I'd like to be advised you're going to do this, but will most likely be open to it.
Facetwins: Please touch base with me before initiating.
Fourthwalling: Please touch base with me before initiating.
